I'm looking for a grand cover which gives protection to the sides of the case and still allows the lid to be raised when being played.  There used to be a padded cover I think used in practice situations.

Are you talking about a full length cover that drapes to the floor when lid is down ? I have heard of those being used to control air currents/circulation - I think Vanda King piano had some

Just regular length.  Protects side of case and the the lid is protected by another cover.

sounds like a custom made thing. One church made a matt black cover almost like a tabletop pad to prevent glare on the polyester lid. I have never seen the cover you describe so I guess you may need to experiment by buying a cheap regular cover and cut it for a pattern. I am not sure but the journal ran ads for covers by Alicia - maybe you can track her down
