In the comments, I learned the way it works is that the tool and the workpiece are slightly at an angle. As they spin, the edges of the tool eat away at the metal. I never took metal class in High School, so I know nothing of machining. I just found it fascinating to see how something spinning could create a hexagonal shape. Just by watching, it's not intuitive what is going on.

I believe our tuning tips are made by broaching, not machining, but I could be incorrect. Many years ago (45?) I witnessed the process at American Piano Supply Co. in Clifton, NJ.
The video you provided in fascinating. I still do not understand how the result was achieved!
