    Esteemed Colleagues:
This is my first experience installing Yamaha Ivorite keytops.  Is there anything special about this material?  I see that one side of each top is a matte finish and the other is polished smooth.  There are black marks on the smooth side, I assume this goes face down on the top of the keystick.  Correct?  Any other hints and tips?  Thanks,

The matte side is glued to the keytops. If the black marks will not rub off, send them back as defective.

I would always contact Yamaha Technical Support for questions like this, Michael. I have always found them to be responsive and helpful.

Thanks to all who responded to my Ivorite question.  According to Yamaha (who I should have contacted in the first place) the black marked side of the keytop goes down to the top of the keystick.

Go figger, shiny-side down.  I'd still score it with a checkering file or rough sand paper.  Are the top side edges finished or oversized for you to trim?  If the keytops are new wood, coat them with glue for a bond coat/sealer; otherwise the glue might wick in and the joint could be glue starved.
