Leg Bolts for George Steck Asian Piano

Hi gang! I have a customer with a George Steck fetal grand piano. It is fairly new (maybe 10 to 20 years old) and is clearly some variety of Asian piano. He had the piano in long term storage and wanted me to set it up for him. All leg and lyre bolts (machine screws) were missing. I tried every thread size and type I could find, both english and metric, and nothing seems to fit. Does anyone know what size/type bolt I need? Or maybe who manufactured this piano (my Pierce Atlas does not provide any info)? The serial number is KP8592 if that might be of any help. Thanks so much!!!

These were manufactured by America Sejung.  I am not sure if they're still around.  I tried to look up the company, and I don't find any official website.  I got a link here: http://www.ascpianos.com/, but it doesn't work.  I worked for a dealer who sold them, but that was more than 10 years ago.  Good luck.

    Terry,

Those Asian pianos (except Japanese) almost always used an old thread developed in the 1800's called British Whitworth. That thread pattern used on the legs is 1/2" - 12. You can get them from Samick.

And I though old English cars were the only ones that used that standard 😳

I am also looking for replacement bolts for a Samick grand. Samick is not responding to emails and the number that PTG has in the industry directory is not in use. Does anyone know how to get through to them?

    Thank you.

    Rex,

Try this email address -- jane@smcmusic.com Jane may be able to help you with the correct contact information. Also, does anybody have the contact information for Kawai parts department. The number I have gets me no response even though the recording indicates they will call you back.

    Roger

Maybe I'm a bit too cynical, but I didn't even try to contact anyone at Samick. I ordered a set of 1/2"-12 Whitworth bolts from: britishfasteners.com. If you like, I can post what kind of luck I've had with them after I try to install them.

I was able to get through to Jane with the email provided and she said that they were waiting on a shipment of bolts from the supplier but she would check to see if there was a single bolt that she could send. She found one and it is on the way.

The British Fasteners website proved to be impossible to navigate to find what I needed and Jane stepped up so I gave up on them.

Thank you to Jane at Samick for the excellent customer service and to those who responded here for the information needed to contact them.

Here's the phone number I got from the Samick website: (615) 206-0077.  I talked to Jane yesterday to order a music desk.  She answered the phone when I called, no menu to go through.  Her email is: jane@smcmusic.com

    310 631-1771

I spoke to Kawai at this number at the end of November. This was technical services, not parts, they called me so I don't know if you have options when you call.

Thanks to Roger Gable and Phil Bondi for suggesting bolts with Withworth threads. I purchased 8 bolts from a place in NY - Brittish Tools & Fasteners and installed them on the piano - threaded in perfectly and snugged up nice and tight. This was the first I had ever heard of that thread.
