When I get and install a cover, I put a little tag of white yarn at the very tail end, to prevent people from putting it on the piano and then twirling it around looking for which way is which.
"Covers by Jill" come in different thicknesses and can be made of different materials. The ones we use for concert instruments are just right.

The cover made by Jill with the built in bumpers is very protective, but it is very cumbersome to take off and put back on. I would try to put the piano protection on the walls and just use a regular thickness padded cover. The last 3 covers purchased here were from American Piano Covers and I really like the quality and the price was good too.

If it is going to be moved through doorways or stored next to walls you may want to look at using foam pool noodles to protect the edges of the lids and the sides of the case. Perhaps even using padded mats mounted on walls is not a bad idea. Chips/gouges/crushed edges are hard repairs to make on polyester finishes. consider parking this piano in its own stall

Hi John,
The best piano covers we have here at CalArts are the padded/quilted ones from Instrument Covers By Jill with perimeter bumpers that run along the outside of the lid.
If there is a better cover available, I, too, would like to know about it.
Best,
Alan

We're receiving a donated Grotrian 220 (7'4") and the plan is to put it in a space where it will have to be moved around now and then. The staff who do the moving have a very poor track record for moving without damaging. This piano has a pristine poly finish. Does anyone have ideas for me?
