Need Two Yamaha Console Hammer Butts

  • 1.  Need Two Yamaha Console Hammer Butts

I am in need of two Yamaha console hammer butts. My understanding is that the console butts are slightly smaller than those for an upright. I can use either butts with plates or without - either one will work fine for me. I've contacted Pianotek, Schaff and Pacific and none of them have the console butts available. Anyone have a couple laying around? Used is just fine with me.

    Thanks!

I think a phone call to Yamaha Tech Services might be appropriate!

Oops! I neglected to identify Yamaha as one of the supply sources that I called. They do carry them, but they are 6 - 8 weeks backordered. If all else fails, then I'll go that route.

Terry, I have a couple of butts, except I don't know if there upright or console. Attached are the dimensions. If you can't read the numbers, they are: 1.77", 1.32", .59"
I have, over the years, noticed that the Yamaha service and parts department deteriorating to the point that almost every item I order is a 6 - 8 week back order.  Event basic items you would think a parts department would stock.
I just realized that the "attachment" button is missing. Does anybody know where it is?

Hi Roger - Are you trying to attach an image? I have found that you can select either the image button on the top line of the form I am writing on or the "Upload file" button right above the "Post" button (lower right). I usually go the Upload file route.  I see your numbers above, but I don't know where you are taking your measurements. Indeed, a picture or at least a drawing would be very helpful!

I thought they fell into only two groups...long catcher stems or short catcher stems. Everything else the same. I could of course be wrong.

Check with Schaff again. What they DON'T have in stock for Tokiwa vertical parts is full sets. I just ordered a single each of the 3800J and 3804J. They're on their way.

If it is Tokiwa parts you are after, you might want to check with Pacific Piano Supply, who imports Tokiwa.

I'm ordering the samples on a hunch that one of them will be a workable replacement for the hammer butts on this 48" tall 1879 Stwy Model E vertical, That way I can ditch the hammer return spring rail.

Renner's one butt (based on the Pratt, Read butt) may be too large for you.

Getting exact replacement parts for old Steinway verticals can be tough but essential in order to get a regulation.  I got an assortment from WNG to deal with an upcoming rebuild.
