    Hi all

Does anyone have old parts and tool catalogs laying around gathering dust? Schaff? American? Pacific? Pianotek?  Catalogs were a great resource throughout the years and I still prefer mine to on line searches, even though they are outdated. The process of discovery through the physical catalog helped me to understand how to order bass strings, what tools to use, or the world of felt. I find myself in the position of informally mentoring new piano techs and would like to hand out catalogs as study material. I'd be glad to cover the cost of shipping.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I still refer to mine frequently. Scrolling online is not an efficient way to learn parts, terminology, descriptions, availability, etc. What size do I need of which style? It's all there in pictures and comparison is simplified.
I hope you find some for your trainees!

    Hi Stewart,

Great idea! have a few old catalogs. I agree that they are very informative.
as a woodworker, also, I learned so much by reading tool descriptions.
I recently thre away a few catalogs but I'll see what I have left.

I went to look for them in my shop yesterday and then I remembered that a few months ago, when I was getting rid of 45 years of junk, they must have been included. So sorry to get your hopes up. Included were the ones that my mentor had given me from way back when. I have been purging so much that i forgot.
I'm sure there are others who have some old ones.
Keep trying; it's a great idea!
    Regards & regrets,

I'll step in with a consolation prize. I retired 2 years ago (after 52 years of sole proprietorship), and have been trying to give all kinds of stuff away (to my fellow chapter members, my alma mater, and whoever else I can come up with).

As for catalogs, I can send you photos of their spines  (including Fletcher, Newman (UK) and many others with only a loose connection to piano work)
