Robert,
If it does not look like a simple fix, and it was purchased on line, I would suggest returning it as defective.
That said, I altered one fellow's adjustable bench (that was irreparable wobbly) into a non-adjustable form at the height he liked by cutting identical shims (blocks) attached between the lower frame and the seat frame. Now very solid.
If it's a cheap bench...well it's cheap. If not, as Pat said, there's help a phone call away.

Hi Robert,
Which brand/model adjustable bench are you dealing with? If it's Jansen, you might try calling them. If they aren't sufficiently helpful, there are a number of folks familiar with maintaining the mechanisms here (or in the CAUT forum).
Good luck!

Subject: Piano bench seat not level
Hello. I've looked around and haven't found this question in the forums. Is there a way to center jack on the screw rod to raise one side only to level it? I have a client with a new adjustable bench. With the knobs on the side that turns a screw lift. One side is noticeably lower than the other. The measurement from the bottom of the seat to the top of the frame is about 1/2 inch different on one side. Since the screw moves the scissor jacks the same, the only thing I can think of is repositioning the lift brackets on the side of the frame.
