For the hive mind-seeking collective memory!

I've been digging through my archives and cabinets far too long, and it's time to ask the group.

At one of the Institutes, an instructor demonstrated a teaching jig that explained how a tuning pin behaves under torque. The setup showed how the pin twists in place before it actually begins to turn.

The jig itself was simple: a cardboard cube with a straight foam "noodle" inserted through the top. A line was drawn on the top of the noodle (and I believe along the side as a marker). As the noodle was turned, it illustrated how the "pin" could twist significantly before the core of the "pin" actually moved.

Does anyone recall this device, know who designed it, or where one might be found today?

    Thanks in advance,

No, but what I do remember seeing is a set-up that had a piece of pinblock with a tuning pin going through it and protruding out the other side, and a wire pointer attached to the bottom end of the pin, the movement of which could be observed and compared to the movement of the arm of the hammer on the top of the pin.

Here's a video I made (available on the Education Hub/Learning Resources/Tuning) of an actual tuning pin in a piece of pinblock.
