    Hi all,

Where can I purchase RPT technical exam repair jigs? I see them on the Renner website, but there's no pricing or purchase option. I emailed them so I'll probably hear from them back soon. Is Renner the only source for official jigs?

It's also unclear which action models PTG currently uses for exam and practice jigs. I may be the only one having trouble finding this, but a clearer path on the PTG website to official vendors would be very helpful.

    Thanks,

Excellent. But, to your point, it is all difficult to find. Under "PTG Members", "RPT Certification Exams" there is a link to PTG Store for the 3-note grand action model, that link does not work for me today on three browsers, it is partially loading and I do not see either model there. The upright models were made by Hailun in 2011-ish, I believe they are all sold and the hunt continues for a new manufacturer, I could be wrong here. The store does say 3-note upright models coming soon. The 3-note grand models are made by Renner, on the Renner site for the grand 3-note model, it says "for questions or purchase, visit www.ptg.org" I believe I saw them on the PTG store site at one time.

Edit: The store loaded after 20 minutes and I see the Renner grand model listed for $995/$865 member price.

The current three-note upright action model is indeed being made by WNG. I tried to acquire one last month, contacting WNG first. They referred me to PTG where I was told they were currently back ordered, but expected to be resupplied this month.

Wonderful Elisha that you are ramping up for some serious mentoring. Here in California, the experienced technicians are timing out and we desperately need new ones! Not only to replace what's leaving the trade, but also there are more pianos flowing into the market every day. Sales in our area, and elsewhere, went through the roof when Covid hit, where Silicon Valley engineers, sitting at home, rekindled their interest in music.

At the college we purchased 6 three-note grand action models, about $1,000 each plus shipping and handling, directly from PTG (Made by Renner, Germany). Although labeled as examination models, they cannot be used for the examination as in the past. The actual structure of the model itself prevents access to some of the parts that are key components of the examination. Plus, they're "3-note." They're working on it.

We purchased 6 sets of examination jigs from Renner USA, about $1,000 each plus shipping, which include the stringing jig, key set, and hammer repair jig made by Mike Carraher et al., amazing manufacturing as are the Renner grand action models.

We purchased 4 three-note vertical action models through PTG, about $500 each plus shipping, manufactured by WNG. Some of the engineering is superb, but they do need some tweaking in their design. Nice to have these things available again.

    Hope this helps.

    Warm Regards,

    Thank you, Peter.

I appreciate you sharing your experience, and I commend the excellent work you've been doing teaching piano technicians at Las Positas College.

I understand there are appropriate limits on what can be disclosed to examinees prior to the exams. That said, it may just be me, but the available jigs and practice resources seem somewhat scattered and not easily found through the PTG store or a single, centralized path-particularly for those who are unable to attend conventions or seminars regularly.

    Thanks again for the insight.
