Hello All!
I'd like to take a moment as someone no longer on the communications committee (CC) to create a friendly reminder that they can't so easily post. Our forums are "self-moderated". Here's what that means:
- Our moderators do NOT initiate any moderation action on any post, regardless of whether it breaks a rule or not. (There are potential exceptions, but that would be rare and avoided.)
- The CC gets involved only after a MEMBER flags a post as inappropriate.
- Once a post is flagged, it disappears until the CC reviews it.
- After the post is flagged, it is sent to the CC for review.
- If the flagged post obviously breaks a rule, it is left down. It is preferred, but not required, that the poster be notified. Depending on the CC chair and how busy they are, this may or may not happen. (Que sera, sera.)
- If the flagged post obviously does not break a rule, it is returned and no other action is taken.
- If the flagged post is questionable but not black and white, different things could happen: The original poster might be contacted, asking them to edit their post so it can be returned. A debate may commence in the CC and a vote can be taken as to whether it should be removed or returned. It's up to the CC, and they do their best to find a balance of respect between the poster and the members when it comes to our rules and basic respect. It's sometimes a very difficult job, and I personally appreciate their VOLUNTEERED time.
- An important note is that if a post is flagged that has replies after it, all subsequent replies disappear with the post.
If something has changed that I'm not aware of, I'm sure I can easily be corrected. To the CC, please feel free to correct me on this thread IF you feel so inclined.
Happy New Year, everyone!
