I was trying to search for a recent posting on this topic, somehow didn’t find it.

Shift pedal pivot pin is loose in pedal on an RX-5. One option is to replace the whole pedal (recommended by Kawai.). Wondering what other techs’ approach might be? One of the simplest ideas I thought of was to drill a hole perpendicular to the hole in the pedal for the pin for a set screw in the pedal body itself, similar to those seen on Kawai shift lever pins.
    Other ideas?

Or install a DC cord clip to hold the exposed pin in place.

    Jon,
I’m referring to the pin (fulcrum) inside the pedal. I can’t envision a DC clip helping there. You’re referring to the pin in the shift lever itself, right?

I was thinking the trapwork pivot pin up on the bottom of the piano. You have the pivot pin of the pedal itself loose.  That pin is usually fluted on the portion inside the pedal. You may have to replace the pin or drive it out and insert a thin, brass/felt/card shim and bang the pin back in. Or whatever else would work :-)

I wrote about this set screw repair just 16 days ago, but the wonderful (sic) search function is so hard to use that I couldn't find it until today. It's under a thread called "basic metalworking question." I'm pasting the reply below. You can do either one or two set screws.

"I've done the set screw repair numerous times in worn pedal pin holes. Should work similarly for any similar pin that's worn. Thanks to Isaac Sadigursky for this tip. I have a mini-kit inside my pedal repair kit with the drill bits, tap, set screws, and Allen key for the set screw. Drill all the way through the pedal, tap top and bottom, file a flat place on the pedal pin for the set screws. Tighten set screws, and it's done. Doesn't take that long once you've done it a couple of times. Now if you don't have a mini-kit with all the stuff handy, it'll take forever remembering where you put all that stuff. :D"

    John,
Thanks for reposting this. That is what I had remembered, just that the thread title didn’t give me the clue I was looking for (though perhaps it should have rung a bell…)

I like the idea of set screws on both sides, that would allow the pin to be centered in the hole rather than pressed to one side.

Yes, and it takes hardly any extra time to tap the other side. It takes far longer to get everything out of the kit than it does to tap.
