    Greetings to all,

I've been reading with great interest the threads on pianosense.

Can anyone in the group tell who makes Story & Clark pianos?
I'm trying to find case parts for a damaged grand.  The pivot the fallboard rotates on broke off on the bass end.  The material is not metal, rather some kind of nylon or plastic.  After trying to get the part, out of desperation I did try to super glue it.  It didn't work.  You can see the treble end is chewed up and distressed.

When I googled Story & Clark it came up with QRS.  I have contacted QRS and had no luck getting any parts for the piano.

    Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any help or advise

Is that blue ring in picture two a bearing? Perhaps you can replace the pins with brass.

Perhaps QRS can at least tell you who manufactured it.

Story & Clark has their pianos made in China but their US location is in PA. QRS is affiliated with Story and Clark and the S&C former factory in Oil City does factory installs of QRS systems. What is the serial number of the piano ? it may be difficult to find the parts you need. I thought I saw fallboard parts sources recently but you mighty try to find a metal shop that could duplicate the pins you need at both ends. I think the blue plastics is just a bearing to hold the pin in. Perhaps it rotates as well so the fallboard can open and close. The Piano Book by Larry Fine should have information on Story and Clark and QRS. You can find the online version of the book which is called The Piano Buyer - it is free but has ads

Definitely a Chinese piano.  This is a slow-close device, not simply a pivot.  These were used on Nordiska pianos, and there were other brands coming from this same factory.  I believe that Baldwin purchased the factory, and this piano is no longer made.  You might Google slow-close mechanisms, and maybe Ali-Express may have them.  If you remove the screws, you'll be able to pull it out and see a large cylinder with the mechanism inside.  These don't last very long.

Did QRS respond?  I would assume they could direct you to a parts supplier.

    Good luck.

I found this on PIanotech on a post from 2020 in reference to the exact part in question:

"UPDATE:  In case anyone else is in a similar situation, the replacement part (and for other dongbei specific parts) is from 'North American Music' in New York.  The contact I was given is Gary at 1-800-782-2694.  The email contact is usapianos@yahoo.com."

I have no idea if this is current information or not.

These pianos were made in the Dongbei factory, where Nordiska and other brand pianos were made.  These slow close mechanisms were prone to break after a couple of years.

    Thank you Paul

That's a good number and they had the part I needed.
The guys name was Greg, but there may be a Gary there too.
Although I don't like working on these Chinese made Story & Clark's , lucky me I have a senior community with two of em.  Nice to have a good source for parts.

Thanks for the help and to all who responded to my problem.
