I have just figured out how to make my iPhone(s) communicate with my Linux Mint laptop, and I found it gives me more flexibility than I imagined.

I'm using the libimobiledevice toolkit, and when my iPhone is connected to my computer with a cable, I can treat the directory on my iPhone where my tuning files are stored as if it is a directory on my computer.  The other day I sorted my many saved tuning files into folders for each letter of the alphabet, with separate folders for the most popular brand names in my database.  This was after conducting the most straightforward backup of tuning files to my computer that I have ever experienced.

I have been using iTunes on my Windows computer, but have chosen to forgo the upgrade that would make necessary the replacement of all the computers that I own, abandoning Windows on all but the university computer that is in my shop at work.  ITunes did not give me this much flexibility with editing the tuning file collection on my iPhone, and since I have some iPhones in my tuning bag going back to model 4S that I don't think work with DropBox, I haven't been using that for quite some time.

Just in the last hour or so I've learned how to do a complete back-up and restore of my iPhone using this tool-kit, and I'm pretty pleased with how it is working.
