A BIG thank you to this group. There was a recent discussion about Yamaha P22 sluggish/sticking key issues.  After easing keys and making sure there was no sluggish action centers, I shimmed the balance rail as discussed.  The action "snapped" into focus. All touch issues were solved and the action performed as it should. The dip, initially, was a little under 10mm. With the shimming, the dip was at 10mm. This was a new, out of the box, instrument that was getting it's first service.

Now I'm thinking about a bunch of P22s that I service; and I'm also wondering about Baldwin 245s that always had touch issues.  Anyhow, thanks to all. That was a timely and really helpful topic.

    Re. Baldwin verticals.

The Baldwin's have about 6 sets of adjusting screws on the balance rail for adjusting the key height. You have to look around for them, they are an octave or so apart, each set of two has one that presses down on the rail and one lifts up. You raise the one that presses down a bit then raise the rail with the other one, then go back and secure it with the down pressing one. Do the opposite if you want to lower it. One of their better ideas.
