Visited a 1925 Conover Grand piano last week for the first time. There was a bass string that rattled because of a loose winding. So I decided to remove that loose winding by pulling on the bitter end with needle-nosed pliers To my surprise it cinched up tight, thereby eliminating the rattle....

Discovered this type knuckle on a Steinway grand, Model M, early 1960s'. No leather. This piano is still in use today in a university with no appreciable wear as compared to leather knuckle shown. #2011

Instead of installing this damper repair spring at the damper flange where it was designed to go, it was attached to the damper lever stop rail instead. The ingenuity of some folks never ceases. #2011

When replacing a broken music wire, here are three muting methods I utilize until the replaced string settles. A balance rail cloth punching, a front rail cloth punching and a rubber grommet. For the rubber grommet I use needle nose pliers to insert and remove. #2011
