Baldwin D concert grand serial #163508: bridge notching and bass string windings

04-11-2012 10:51

This piano of the 1960s has some features we associate with the early 20th century: steel wound bass strings and notching nearly parallel to the bridge in the mid treble section. The last photo is of a Steinway D, 151050, with the same notching pattern.

That is a huge offset of the bridge pins being parallel with relation to the agraffes. From my experience tuning unisons pure in this piano would be a "total forget it" proposition. Wonder what that piano sounds like? Tks for sharing.
