These brass half-rounds are installed behind the tenor counter bearing felt to eliminate the ratcheting effect caused be the drag on the felt surface.

Certainly an interesting idea, but do you get sympathetic high partials from these 'parts of string' ? I come across many grands where that part between the wrest-pin and the aggraffe has been stuffed with felt/cloth just to get rid of that sympathetic sound.
