Gram gage jig setup for hammer flange

03-12-2011 00:02

Correx gram gage held on platform that pivots under the gage to allow the feeler to point directly at the action center while the larger swinging arm moves the whole gage around the action center. The feeler is held precisely at a specified distance from the action center, such as 20 mm per WNG, or 32 mm per Stanwood, or at the jack toe or rep lever drop screw pad. When the feeler points directly at the action center, only the tangential (perpendicular to radius) forces act on the gage, eliminating radial forces which should not be included in a torque measurement.

To see the non-fuzzy photo, you must click on the file link. This on-screen version is evidently a low resolution "thumbnail", even if you click "full screen", which seems dumb.
Also note that the feeler tip is not pointing exactly at the action center as it is supposed to be. I was trying to use the jig and take a picture at the same time, but left my third hand at home.
