Reducing hammer mass with a Dremel tool

09-30-2011 17:47

I felt I should add a disclaimer less someone might construe that they can do on any piano what I did on this one Hamilton grand without first understanding the DW/UW relationship along with potential center pin friction realities. Those brass gram weights are essential in offering insight to a piano's touch situation. In my case I just knew what I wanted to achieve and I knew what I could get away with. I have serviced this piano since 1979. So, as a gentle reminder, please remember readers, when removing any mass from hammer heads, once it's gone, it can't be put back. (I left a blooper in the video clip because it makes me laugh. I consider it an incredibly professional move on my part :-)
