Removing balance rail key pins

02-24-2015 13:18

A slightly modified pop rivet gun removes balance rail key pins axially, thus avoiding damage of the original hole. The only modification to the tool was to bore out the tip of the tool to match the diameter of the key pin.

Dale, this particular tool comes with two interchangeable heads for a large size rivet and for a small one. I enlarged the bigger one to accomodate the balance rail pins. The smaller one is unchanged. I haven't used the tool in many years and didn't see any pop rivets laying around to test. I expect it would still function for the the larger rivets, and of course the smaller size would be unaffected.

Very innovative Duane, great modification an existing tool! Can you still use as a pop rivet tool?
