Sheet Bend String Knot Diagram & Instructions

This is the type of string knot I use when tying a broken string. William Monroe provided the official name. Credit for diagram goes to Harold Staff which was published in the Piano Technicians Journal, February 1981, page 16. Added a well used copy of that article with detailed instructions how to tie.

David Nereson, RPT provided this additional information:
"It's called a sheet bend, although with wire, there's no "sheet" involved. In ship rigging, a sheet is a rope attached to the corner of a sail. (I know, you'd think the sail would be the sheet, not the rope.) If there's no grommet or other means of attachment, the sail corner is bent around in a simple crook, then the rope (sheet) is tied around it in a simple overhand knot that's looped through the bend, or crook. …"
