    Greetings All --

Serviced a Hyundai upright this afternoon. Serial number 633031. Went to look it up in Pierce to find out the date of manufacture and the only entry for Hyundai states that it was owned by Samick, (1981 - 1990). Unfortunately the serial number on the piano doesn't follow the weird normal Samick letters and numbers format that this entry provides. Anyone have any idea what path I need to follow to date this piano? Or can anyone here actually date this piano?

    Thanks --

    Geoff

Could have been made by Young Chang, in which case it was made in 1987.

Hmmm. Maybe. I think that year is about when the owner purchased it. According to Pierce, Hyundai didn't get involved with Young Chang until they purchased the company in 2006. On the other hand, according to a post on PianoWorld from 2015, the owner of the store that I'm sure this one was purchased from says that Samick had partnered with Young Chang to make Samick uprights under the name of Hyundai during that 80's period. So you may be right. Wonder why Pierce has Hyundai listings for the correct years but is using the incorrect serial number format?

Pierce also mentions that ALL pianos made by Samick are manufactured at the Young Chang factory, still owned by Hyundai. Interesting.
