After spending 24 years in St. Louis, MO, tuning for private customers and running a rebuilding shop and piano store, and 6 years as the head piano technician for the School of Music at the University of Alabama, Willem and his wife, Janet, moved to Hawaii in August, 2007. In August 2012 Wim retired and moved to St. Augustine Florida, from where he and his wife enjoy traveling with their travel trailer. His knowledge of pianos comes from being a Registered Piano Technician, (RPT) member of the Piano Technicians Guild, (PTG). (www.ptg.org) As a member of the PTG, he has attended more than 55 seminars and technical institutes, and has taught as over 35 of them throughout the United States and Canada on topics like tuning, voicing, rebuilding, and a variety of business related subjects. In addition to his teaching, Willem has also written numerous article for the PTG Journal, the official trade magazine for piano tuners. And he has written a book, The Business of Piano Tuning, A Guide to Marketing, Managing, Promoting, Buying and Selling a Piano Service Business, which is the only book of its kind for the piano service industry. In his spare time, Willem enjoys playing handbells, and composing and arranging handbell, choir and band music. In 2021 he was given the Member of Note Award at the Convention in Orlando.
