  • 1.  tuning 4 pianos?

I've been asked to tune 4 pianos for a piano quartet at a nearby college for a recital (something I've never tried before).
I am inquiring as to whether these pianos are all of the same type (i.e. all studios or grands) or of varying types.  I hope to have that answer by tomorrow sometime.

My usual practice is to use my ETD to set temperament, and then tune the remainder aurally, checking 4ths, 5ths, 10ths, and 12ths as I go.
Can I rely on my usual procedure to produce satisfactory results for this task?
I'm concerned that varying inharmonicity could produce some undesirable results in the upper treble ranges when the pianos are played together.
Hopefully all 4 pianos are of the same type and brand, but I doubt they're all identical pianos.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It's more important that each piano is in tune with itself.  Yes, they all need to be tuned to 440, but as long as each is in tune with itself, the slight differences between the pianos will not be heard.

Any discrepancy will be blended with the pianos being part of a chorus.

Somewhere along the line Bill Bremmer expounded at length on the subject. In a nutshell if I recall correctly, he agreed with Geoff.
