Of course "undisclosed" does not in and of itself mean illegal. It means "I'm not telling" as in "so and so is at an undisclosed location". I know where it is but I'm in not telling. 😎

Hmmm. Perhaps you could become the underground black market resource for Jim. Better delete this thread before you-know-who sees it.

They can sue me all they want. It's all just big con game.  I won't be conned, and I'm not afraid. The burden of proof is on them.

Furthermore who said I use a "decal" anyway? Have you looked into stenciling? Check it out. Indistinguishable if done carefully. And totally legit.

So now it comes out that Peter is rebuilding black market stencil pianos.  Oh, great!   I have noticed his beady eyes darting around nervously in a furtive glance, then downcast to the ground as he avoids eye contact.  It's a terrible secret to keep, and now the cat is out of the bag.

You will be the ruin of us all, Peter.  Shame!!

Am I hearing you say that I could somehow create a stencil of this decal?  How to do that I am wondering!
I also just found this link on ebay

Take a very clear picture of the decal to a print shop and they should be able to make a stencil from it.

I once replaced a soundboard on an 1888 Chickering Concert Grand.  There was a Chickering logo and serial number on the board.  I photographed it and had a Screen Printing Stencil made.   Printing it on the new board was a one off use and well worth the minimal investment.  I think the stencils can be cleaned and reused.  Could possibly be applied to Fallboards with bronze powdered ink.  Photo taken 33 years from the time it was installed attached.

Nice idea. When you have the stencil which produces better results (less bleed) spraying or hand drawing with a pen?

I've never actually done it but I've seen videos featuring a Cricut stencil cutting machine. The stencil material has a mild adhesive on it to stick to the surface, minimizing bleeding. This process is functionally identical to hand painting which is functionally identical to restoration of an original (and is not a decal).

Brass fallboard transfers were all over eBay at very low prices - and in different thicknesses recently.  I see those are not as easy to find right now, but keep your eye out there for new opportunities. Here's a couple I saw this morning -- one for a large "side-piano" transfer:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/354993546684?hash=item52a743a5bc:g:tU0AAOSwJBZk5H5x&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8C3x144nMIFofS5f4tUOlHBHNzmk2tKdV%2B8hhZz%2BEyU%2F9fze5Y3crMI0ckwZVKPrxLgHCWH1eh3dhPZGOQaG5sqGcT5N67B38s4L0miD1jT411%2B5vFgoTI7%2F4Mi9O9rUguR61yw9GUmDDY5gT%2Bmw6qrTxVIOD1VgVi9ig%2FcFUdOX9gdT7FFsdFMw0HK34veD3%2FTbE99UDYsQVosXEPpKQKwPFM5EQuwkMsB%2FC6ibTudTm85uKkyQLaCcZ7a3LqKpJeuR%2B69uCO3EJujRgoifD6Z5n10QCLZT8wV0ypDIQN3ePtRA1bdEkUIILUzjCaUrLg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR4zXpJnPYg

and two from a Japanese vendor, possibly New Old Stock?:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/235181768426?hash=item36c1ecfeea:g:HcQAAOSwvbdk9zI6&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA8MEKhHr1kSaZRuYjsNzDsPUp1q5Uprj9RG%2BHKNO%2B7VBAWm025G%2FEUL7zCBxcBTYuejW3wIuxoqEGu3wBgfrDbyA5AZ7B5GRNoy5vovRDT%2BYtO%2BJlVQ3zOsho8UAnsUgmMYCR1jGYvbAEkW8fKGpy7v9FrQihQQGBvzeTxQO%2F1b24Z4RmxrDIMU5Az6zXpIQ8dtWXvqpt7LLmDyeN3ysffFcr6Q2%2F7EJ0kISUd2o0eLnGaD77OzotOkx6jyx6VudMlaW7OxXtjLICmg23bPx39aYsvlyUvkck8uQje31VlS1UOAM63x7qilB7KusAkg5olg%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABk9SR47XpJnPYg

I'm sure everything is quite legal...just like those $10 Gucci bags and $50 Rolex watches.
