    Hi all,

I just traced the lettering on my Knabe plate and noticed something that I hadn't before. The "M" in "WM KNABE" seems to be backwards (and yes, I fairly carefully traced the contour of the letter). Was this "a thing" or an error the builders kicked themselves over after casting the plate? It's a 1923 model C.
     Thanks!

Well, assuming it was actually an error (I've looked around and haven't seen anything else like this), I can just hear the conversation that ensued after removing from the sand casting:

"George, you imbecile! You blunderbuss! This is unacceptable carelessness for 'the world's best piano'! This shall be your last day of work at our factory. Perhaps you could find new employment with Stieff. Better still, pack your bags and take your 'skills' to Aeolian so that we never have to see your face again!"

"Georg, du Idiot! Du Donnerbüchse! Das ist eine unannehmbare Nachlässigkeit für ‚das beste Klavier der Welt'! Das soll dein letzter Arbeitstag in unserer Fabrik sein. Vielleicht findest du bei Stieff eine neue Anstellung Ihre 'Fähigkeiten' an Aeolian, damit wir Ihr Gesicht nie wieder sehen müssen!"

I'm not certain that's real German or "English German" as found in humorous warning signs, such as "Das fingerpokin est Verbotten." I did learn three German words while I was growing up from my German Grandmother (came here when she was 3); Dumbkoff, Dunderhead, and Garagekey. I leave it for you to figure out how I learned the first two!
From my Flemish mother I learned two French words, 'Chevrolet" and "Coupe" but I'm not much better off than the New York cab driver who picked up a Frenchman from the Airport and asked him, "You want to go to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel?"  He answered, "Qui, Qui!"  "No you don't buddy, not in my Taxi!!!"
To keep this about pianos, I think I've strung this thread far enough!
