Try removing the pedal lyre- it may be stamped in the wood there . other places on back of key slip or on the cheek blocks . I have found serial numbers on the keybed under the keybed and on the soundboard...

In general other than the plate, serial numbers are found on Baldwin pianos under the treble belly area, either the belly rail (earlier) or the soundboard (later).
Numbers found elsewhere are usually case numbers.

Serial numbers on Baldwin grands can be found on top of the legs, where they attach to the piano.

The owner is trying to establish the age of this venerable piano and the serial number doesn't seem to be on the plate.
I've never worked on this particular piano, nor is it in my area.
