    Can anyone tell me where I can find the serial number of a Baldwin SD6, other than the plate? 
    The owner is trying to establish the age of this venerable piano and the serial number doesn't seem to be on the plate. 
    I've never worked on this particular piano, nor is it in my area.

    Serial numbers on Baldwin grands can be found on top of the legs, where they attach to the piano.

    In general other than the plate, serial numbers are found on Baldwin pianos under the treble belly area, either the belly rail (earlier) or the soundboard (later).

    Numbers found elsewhere are usually case numbers.

    The tone of the SD6 can be improved by converting it to roll pins. For some reason every model I have come across had excessive bearing.

    Try removing the pedal lyre- it may be stamped in the wood there . other places on back of key slip or on the cheek blocks . I have found serial numbers on the keybed under the keybed and on the soundboard...
