Most likely varnish (hard) rubbed out with pumice and rottenstone to high sheen. European pianos of this age would likely have a shellac-based
finish and be french polished to high gloss.

We are refinishing a 1907 mahogany piano for a client. What was the sheen style back in this time? Satin, glossy? The customer was asking and I wasn't sure what the normal would have beensince most pianos I've seen from that era have poor finishes or have been refinished.
Thanks!
