I just heard from a blind tuner in South Africa that there is now an ETD for blind tuners that tells you if a string is sharp or flat. Are there any blind tuners in America that is going to attend the convention this year who is willing to demonstrate the program?

Four years ago, TuneLab developed an app designed to be usable by blind tuners: Montal Tuner. It is only available for iPhone/iPad.

I don't know about any blind tuners who are using it (have heard mixed reviews through the grapevine), but Robert Scott will be there and can demonstrate it.

DeWald Deventer in South Africa told me about it and is using it. There is a blind tuner in our chapter that might be interested.

Robert Scott made it pretty affordable, around $150. I'm sure he would appreciate feedback.

Peter & Wim - I'll try to make a quickie video soon, then a better one later. It works quite well. I think I'll ask my blind friend if he'd make a video with me!

    Maggie

Can you bring it with you to the convention? I'd like to see it work in person.

It's actually a matter of hearing it work. It produces a kind of swishing sound to show out of tune (different sounds for flat and sharp), and you can listen to samples on this page.

I'm not sure of the actual mechanics of dealing with the touch screen. I guess you memorize the position on the screen of the places you need to touch, together with using voice recognition.
