    Hello,

I had an inquiry today about "repairing" fingernail scratches on a Steinway fallboard. At this point, I don't know how deep they are. While I'm interested in learning this kind of touch-up work, I admit doing this repair correctly is likely above my current pay grade.

How difficult is this type of repair? Are there some more economic/less skilled ways to touch this up? I'd like to present some options, and I'd be willing to sub the work out if he's interested in a professional level touch-up or refinishing.

    Thank you!

Often the scratches are visible but not deep and can be rubbed out.  If they are deeper and you can feel them, the best solution is to have it refinished.  A few scratches or gouges can be touched up, but a large area would take a long time and not look as good.
