I used to use Flitz metal polish for polishing up fallboard brass at the end of my tunings. I recently switched to Wenol metal polish because it appears to be less abrasive and, for me, easier to use. Unfortunately, while the tube that Flitz came in was manageable, the tube that Wenol comes in is quite sensitive to the slight bumps it receives in my tool bag. (I think Flitz comes in a more plastic like tube while Wenol comes in a soft metal tube.) This causes it to squeeze out contents under pressure when I open the cap. I keep the tube wrapped in a soft polishing cloth and in a plastic bag in a separate bag within my daily tool bag, as protected as I can make it. Today's question: What would you recommend as a way to better protect this tube so that it doesn't get accidently squeezed in my bag? Putting it in a separate bag from my single small tool bag is not an option as I'm not going carry around a second bag just for this. I'm not opposed to, perhaps, squeezing some of the polish into a different container that won't be so susceptible to accidental squeezing, but what kind of container might this  be?

Looking forward to your thoughts and recommendations.

How often do you use it?  For tools and supplies that I use only occasionally, I kept several different toolboxes in the trunk of my car. It did mean an extra trip to the car, but it certainly made the toolbox I carry in the house a lot lighter, and in your case, a lot less to damage or accidental spilling of the content.

I polish the fallboard brass on pretty much every piano I service. That means that I use this tube of polish too frequently to make a second trip to the car for it, or carry in a separate bag. My main tool bag is made of cloth and relatively small. Perhaps 15x6x8. I do not have it stuffed but by using several additional small bags inside I manage to keep it pretty well organized. For instance, there is a small bag that holds felt pieces, several kinds of glue, Proteck, some other soft type stuff and this tube of polish. All of these things are stored in their own separate plastic bags to prevent spillage. This tool bag holds what I need for perhaps 90+% of the work I do in peoples homes. At the same time, the trunk of my car is full of additional tools and supplies. I'm not as prepared as, say, Isaac was but I seldom need to make a second trip to a customers home.

Supply 88 has some plastic storage containers that they sell to protect small plastic liquid applicators.  They have a couple different sizes.  Basically a clear plastic tube with end caps.  I'm not sure if they have one that's long enough, but my guess is that the longer one will work.

If it were my choice, I'd get the small Elmer's white glue in a bottle just over one ounce, empty it, dry it out and replace with your polish. This is what I do to carry titebond.

Have you tried getting the same stuff online instead of a piano supply? Usually it comes in nicer containers. Like flitz for example. i purchase it in the quart cans. And use a spoon to put it in smaller plastic containers.

Thanks to all for your replies. Very helpful. I think I'm going to go in search of a small metal tin with screw top and just squeeze some of the polish into it when it gets low.
