    This piano needs to be completely re-strung, with the plate removed and refinished and the soundboard refinished. No short cuts will solve the smell problem.

    And there is no sense in doing any of this work if the cat is not removed from the premises!

    Removed from more than just the premises...

    Have the owners list their sense of smell? I imagine the entire house is a stink pot.

    Remove the premises from the premises....

    Hopefully the problem is contained to the "piano".

    I believe that Cory has a product for this use as well as a smoke smell eliminator.

    You may want to try spraying rubbing alcohol in a test area.  The contaminated strings are toast. Be sure to measure them using the string measurement protocol

    Often time pet owners get so used to the smell they live with it. No grand should be left open when the room is unattended. once they mark their turf they will return. You should also check the pedal box and pedals as well as the casters.
