Hi, Bill,
I think that you're spot on.
Those look like the Imadegawa hammers that George, Norm Neblett, along with Don and Randy Morton were importing during that period.
Unforgivably hard as rocks...required far too much needlework to even get into the ballpark of usability.
While haven't seen any new ones in some time, I understand that the felt and pressing is more usable now. I think that Randy is still importing the new versions, which are probably renamed.
Why anyone would put hammers like that on what look sort-of like original S&F escapes comprehension....but...that's another conversation.
Hope that this is of some help.
Kind regards.
Horace

The straight-cut instead of a cove reminds me of the Japanese hammers George Defenbaugh was importing in the late '70s. (I don't remember his brand name.) None of my current catalogs show hammers with this straight cut, although it seemed to be more common on imported hammers back then. I'm not going to have to deal with them; they just turned up in an examination I did for an appraisal.

Anyone recognize these? They were put on in the last 15 years on a Stwy A2. (Sorry, the bottom of the tail is hidden, but instead of a curved cove underneath the bore, there is a straight cut at the c/l of the front-to-back.)
TIA,
