I need an iphone holder for clamping to the piano struts.  What are people using?  Small and compact but stable.

An Otterbox belt clip is one option.

This little rig can be used with a phone clip.

    Hi Dave,

I use the one Dean Reyburn sells. It clamps onto the phone with springs and an adjustable slide, and it has a socket that fits on a tuning pin, with a ball joint for angle adjustments. When I want it further away than the tuning pins, I just set it on the strings like a tripod wherever, no problem. It doesn't attach to the piano, except gravity-powered on a tuning pin.

David, you might give this one a look also. I have used it on a golf cart but it will work well on a piano plate.

I know y'all know what you are doing, but I get nervous clamping anything to a plate, for fear of marring or removing a weak section of finish.

I use one of these with my (ancient) iPad: https://www.amazon.com/DTTO-Premium-Multi-Angle-Wake-Sleep-Function/dp/B07C5ZJ37K , and I can pretty easily find spots where it will securely rest on most pianos.  The kick stand on this kind of design is _much_ more stable than the apple-branded ones that only attach to the side via a magnet.  The elastic strap is also a really nice addition because it keeps it closed (and thus the screen off) when it's in my tool case.  I imagine similar designs are available for iPhone, although not from the same brand apparently.

The Reyburn CyberStand is a pretty cool option for phone-sized devices (edit: sorry Mark Schecter, didn't realize you already said this).

I use a small piece of plexiglas about 5X12", 1/8", to span over the struts.  I put my iphone holder on top of this.  Here's what I'm using for a holder:

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09MCKK9NX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

It is well made and heavy enough to hold the phone securely.  Folds up flat.  You can angle it forward or back as needed.  Nothing clamped onto the piano.  Move it wherever you need it.

I use what Mark Schecter describes, with the addition of a stand from Bill Spurlock that allows you to clamp to the plate struts. I made one myself also, a half tuning pin sunken into a plastic cutting board section, that section cut to accept the strut and a screw clamp.

Or maybe peruse bike accessory sites. In NYC, most deliveries are done with e-bikes, they all have stands for a device attached.

Thanks for all the input folks.  I guess I'm undecided as to whether I want one that clamps on to the tuning pins or the struts. I suppose depending on upright or grand both might be nice, then again, I've gotten by without one for some years.

David - I use the holder that Bill Spurlock sells (or sold) for a good ten years or more now. It is meant to be placed on tuning pins. However, I rarely use a tuning pin, but rather just set it down either on the strings themselves or the area between the forward string termination and the tuning pins. On verticals I often just set it on the fallboard, or place my notebook across fallboard parts and set it there. I personally don't like the idea of clamping something onto a plate strut.

My cousin gave me a holder that originally had a suction cup. The flexible aluminum shaft broke once and a client did an excellent job putting it back together. I'm a bit more careful how I bend it.
