Thank you, Israel, for that sad notice.  Isaac was always ready with a smile and a joke when we saw him. He will be missed by many who have learned so much from him.
I remember at a convention in California, he took a group out to his van in the parking lot and showed us all the tools and supplies he had. It was packed with everything you would need for piano service. I wouldn't be surprised if, under the back seat, he had a complete outfit for welding piano plates!
I thought about reporting Isaac and his van to the Los Angeles Police Department. Why would I do that?  We had seen a news report about someone stealing a tank from a National Guard armory, driving it down city streets, crushing parked cars, one after the other.  The LAPD reported that they did not have anything that would stop a tank! I suspected that Isaac's van, loaded with all the equipment just might be a match for that tank and wanted them to be aware of this valuable resource!  I'm sure Isaac would have laughed at that story. He certainly was one of a kind.
His family and all his friends must find peace in the fact that he is so beloved. Zichrono livracha - May his memory be a blessing

I remember being in one of his classes I believe it was in St Louis.  He may have been in one of the classes I taught as well.  I also spoke with him on the phone when I was in desperate need of some brass flanges for a Chickering Grand. It was then that I learned of his famous coffee jar filled with all sorts of parts impossible to find. He sent it to you, you took what you needed but no more then you sent it back to him. A fellow tech in Charleston also needed a whippen flange so I called Isaac and asked him if I could have another. Sure thing he said. He was a generous person who gave much to PTG. I wonder how many techs over the years got parts out of that jar. I recall a story by someone who visited his shop and found he had drawers and drawers of parts all neatly stored and labelled. May he Rest In Peace

I was privileged to have membership in the Los Angeles Chapter, PTG, with him. I owe many of my skills to his mentorship and, yes, he had a HUGE collection of just about any part, or tool, and any variation of that part, or tool, you could imagine. He was generous to a fault in providing access to those items, for free. More than once he provided fellow techs with the tools and parts they needed to get back on their feet after their tools had been stolen. He was always available for guidance in how to do many tasks. I'm sure I'm not alone in owing him more than I would ever be able to pay back in what I gained from the knowledge and skills that he shared. He was also a master accordion and clarinet player and loved to play for us and tell stories. His passing is a major loss to PTG, those who knew him, and, to me, as a personal friend. 😢

I used to look forward to getting together with Isaac - at conventions, conferences or the occasional technicals he presented to our San Francisco chapter. .We were both Jewish expatriates of the Soviet Union, and it was lots fun sharing Yiddish and Russian jokes of which Isaac had a never-ending supply. Last I checked there were three of us in the PTG - sadly, now only two are left... Isaac's resourcefulness was a direct result of learning the trade in the Soviet Union - there technicians worked under impossible conditions. Lacking availability of tools, supplies or replacement parts required ingenuity, and super-human ability to improvise - design and make tools, recondition old parts, or sometimes make them from scratch - and somehow keep functioning those old grand pianos left over from before the revolution. Those of us who heard old Soviet era recordings of Emil Gilels or Sviatoslav Richter could tell what those pianos were like... And anyone experienced the misfortune of having to work on those Belarus, Red October or Riga uprights that emigres schlepped with them from there? (Israel is full of them). Isaac managed to combine the resourcefulness learned there with the wealth of what's available to technicians in the US and take piano service to a whole different level...

Isaac passed away on the third night of the eight-day Hannukah holiday - the Holiday of Light. His light will continue to shine on us all through the knowledge he shared with us during his life, and through his video presentations on the PTG website.

Years ago (Many Decades actually) I attended a PTG  regional, or maybe it was a national gathering, where a somewhat recently-emigrated technician spoke--it may have been Issac-my wife remembers us being in Davis. He told us of the problems tuning with no equipment AND no transportation. Conditions such that a single tuning was nearly an all-day job.  This gave him some problems when he settled in the States and he acquired all the neat stuff we take for granted, and all the training and shared expertise here. The problem would be when he would tune for other emigrants and would finish in the typical 2 or so hours---"What, you can't be done already!" they would claim in disbelief.  He also told a joke about life in Russia in those days, which I still remember and sometimes tell. I can't use quotes as I don't remember the exact words, but it went something like this:

In Russia the economy is actually a cash one. You save up rubles and stash them under your mattress for any future need. One day you are coming home from work and in the music store is a brand new Russian Grand Piano, only 30,000 rubles. Well you go home, and sure enough, those lumps in the mattress are enough to cover it--NO PROBLEM, you go and buy the Grand Piano. Next day at work one of the supervisors taps you on the shoulder and says, "You must come to office at end of day!" OK, so you go to the office, and there are KGB guys awaiting you.

"Yesterday you buy Grand Piano, wonderful Russian product! It is good that you are supporting Russia economy! But we have problem, how you afford 30,000 ruble piano when you only make 10,000 rubles a year?"

"So comrades, the problem is how I afford to buy grand piano?"

"Yes, comrade, that is the problem!"

"Well, I have upright piano that I fixed up and sold to buy Grand Piano!"

"Ah comrade, that is good, you are resourceful! But how long you have Upright Piano?"

"Oh, I buy upright piano 15 years ago"

"Hmm, but 15 years ago you only made 5,000 rubles a year, how you afford to buy upright piano?"

"So buying upright piano is now the problem?"

"Yes comrade, that is the problem! What can you say?"

"I had spinet piano I fixed up to buy Upright piano!"

    "When you buy spinet piano?"

"Oh, I had spinet piano for 15 years too!"

"Ah, but comrade, you only making 500 rubles a year then, how you afford to buy spinet piano"

"So the problem is how I afford to by spinet piano?

"Yes, that is the problem! Can you explain it to us?"

"It is not a Problem!  For buying spinet piano I already been to prison!"

Sad to hear.  I remember Isaac's infectious smile and kindness.  He epitomized the true technician by always freely giving of his vast knowledge to others.  I learned a lot from him and will miss him.
