Mason and Hamlin Upright Screwstringer parts needed!

I am close to finishing a rebuild job on an old 1897 Mason and Hamlin Screwstringer. I have around 175 hours of work into this project and am finally close to being finished, but today I was tightening up a string and the hook that the string attaches to at the tuning end of the string snapped in two. The hook I need is a treble hook that goes on the back row. I actually need two of them since there was already one missing on the top note. I sure hope someone has such an instrument that can be used for spare parts. Otherwise I'm Screwstringered!

I work with a machinist who may be manufacturing new screw stringer parts in the future. He's not a technician, but he collects Victorian era pianos and has the equipment to make nearly anything.

    Tim,

If your machinist friend is a screwstringer fan in need of parts, he might find it more expedient to search out someone with spare hooks lying around.  I have plenty, and there are other techs flying under the radar who have them too.  Hand-fabricating hooks seems like a lot of effort when there are supplies out there.

His time might be better spent on duplicating the brass guide combs through which the hooks pass.  Now that would be helpful, as anyone who has rebuilt one will tell you.

I wouldn't say I'm hoarding.  I'm lovingly conserving lots and lots and lots of spare parts for screwstringers.  :)

Allright .... there are plenty of "Preservationists" in our Profession. 2025 would be a good year to come clean. There are plenty of needs like the brass flanges for Chickerings, Long stickers and tall whippens for full upright pianos, lyres, screws, music desks, lid hinges

Can you believe the year 2000 was 25 Years Ago !!!
