1989 to 1992 was a period of public discussion about the quality (and the warranty) of Steinway pianos that was in large part organized / generated by a former Steinway dealer in Waterford, Connecticut – Michael Yeager. I was the editor at the time of the Journal of the Master Piano Technicians of America (MPT), and as such I received a lot of the materials that Mr. Yeager distributed to many PTG and MPT members and other interested parties (I also received some Steinway materials).

In case there is any historical interest among the participants here on the discussion / controversy and the intense media attention that was generated, I'll attach a few sample documents that might help to orient you. I'm sure that we have no interest in re-opening the topic in detail, but for general discussion we still have MPT and PTG members here who might participate who thirty-five years ago participated in the piano appraisals, or helped analyze the soundboard cracks and compression rib issues, or who contributed their opinions at the time on quality-control issues, etc. (My article is on page 7 of the attached January 1991 MPT Journal.)

Don't delete them. Send them to the PTG Foundation library.
