    Hey Folks,

Any news on availability of pro felt? I hate to think of not having it!

    Thx

Schaff told me they were going to carry it, but that was a while ago…

I called Schaff to place an order a few weeks back. Inquired about Profelt. I was told one of the ingredients is no longer being made and they are working with another company to find something comparable. I was told to "use what I have very sparingly" but that they planned to put it in production again if/when a viable alternative ingredient can be made/found.

Not trying to be cynical but I find this "explanation" somewhat lacking in credibility. In this highly "chemicalized" world it is highly improbable that a non-hazmat chemical is "no longer made" (the only possible exception is that there is no humongous profit in the endeavor, therefore discontinued). We already know at least three of the ingredients. I'm doing my own research on the matter. We'll see if it leads anywhere.

I talked to Schaff today. They are currently working on a source in UK, trying to get it shipped is apparently the next hurdle.

I also  called Schaff and go the skinny on what's going on. The Pro Felt solution is a chemical stabilizer used in high level fabric production. Kluge has their own version of it, and apparently, that's where Pianotek was getting it from and relabeling it VS Pro Felt.

According to Allan at Schaff it's going to be a while before they will be able to secure another shipment. But he said, Alfred Jahn Pianoteile (pianos.de) catalog has it and it's listed as Kluge.  So it is immediately available. I'm going to explore getting an order soon as I'm just about all out.
