I have been refurbishing a grand piano lyre but I need recommendations on installing a new pin in a pedal.
I was able to extract the old worn pin with an extractor, but using the extractor to put new pin locked up and will not push it into place.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

    Michael

Put the pedal side way in a vise and pound the new pin in the hole. Be gentle so as not to bend the pin.

Two pieces of advice. 1. put leather or cloth between to jaws of the vise and pedal so not to scar the pedal.
    2. Either use a soft face hammer, or use a small block of wood on the pin, so as not to mark the end the of the pin.

    Thanks Wim,

I was able to get to another techs shop that has a vice and finish the installation of the pin.  I also got advice on lubricating the pedal rod bushings with graphite.

I converted a C clamp into a pin vise by cutting a slot in the face of the clamp for the pin and a notch in the screw end for the pin end.  This lets me extract and replace a pedal pin in a verticle piano.

    I should include a photo....
