Paul
I got a message back from Paul S. The turn around time is about 6 weeks. I'm sending it tomorrow morning. I'm going to South Africa for 16 days in February, and since I'm only tuning part time, I won't miss it too, much. Yes, I will dust off the aural skills, but I'm a hybrid tuner anyway, so it should not be a problem. Thanks for the offer, but I'll be fine.

I have replaced the batteries myself in both of my SAT I's. SAT II is the same. They are usually the old NiCad batteries, AA size, 4 of them. You can buy them as a "pack" shrink wrapped together. It's possible to replace them with lithium rechargeable ones, but you'd have to charge them with a different charger. The SAT III is not NiCad, I think they're lithium. I don't know about the SAT IV, but all you'd have to do is unsolder them and take note of any markings on the batteries so you could find replacements. If you send it in, there may be a substantial wait before you get it back. Then there's the risk of voiding any warrantee that might still be available. I guess it might be a good reason to dust off those aural skills! PM me if you'd like to borrow my SAT III in the meantime.
