I would just mask it off and preserve it . Careful cleaning could revive it. Not worth putting several hundred dollars in the piano. there is a way to mask it off there could be some articles in the journal

Hello,
I'm gearing up to rebuild a 1909 Schomacker grand. Decals Unlimited does not currently have the soundboard decal available, but they are able to replicate it for $1,250. I'm sure this is a fair price for decal replication, especially one of this detail and scale, but a little more than I really want to pass onto the client if I don't have to. I will be shimming the original board, not replacing it. For those of you who have restored soundboard decals, I'd love to hear about your process and considerations I should be taking.
