Hey, this is Justin. I am a relatively new piano tech (been working professionally for the last couple years), and have a problem I hope someone with more industry knowledge can help me with.
My customer owns a Bergmann baby grand. When my customer moved a couple years ago, the movers removed the piano's lid from the cabinet. For some strange reason, the movers not only removed the hinge pins, but also unscrewed the hinge plates from the piano's rim. They left the piano lid's hinge plates attached.
During the move, the hinge pins and the plates belonging to the piano rim were lost. My customer now has a baby grand with only half of the hinges for the lid.
I have done my best to find a source for Bergmann piano hinges, but cannot find anything available. Since Bergmann is manufactured by Young Chang, I have looked for Young Chang hinges as well, but with the same failure.
The impression left by my customer's hinges (see photo) does not match any hinge parts that I can find from US suppliers. At the end of the day, I may have to purchase a non-matching set of hinges and retro-fit them to the piano, so that my customer at least has a baby grand with a functionable lid.
Does anyone have advice on how I can source the correct hinges? Or any advice on how to fit a functional substitute? I really appreciate any information you're willing to share.
Thank you!
