I posted recently about a 1948 Steinway grand with heavy verdigris. After reading all the discussions my question brought up, I think new whippens, shanks and flanges are the way to go. What parts are most commonly purchased these days, OEM or imports and from which sources? I had a shop for many years doing rebuilding, but as I have gotten older I’ve been doing mostly tuning so I haven’t done a full action for several years and I know things change over time.

    Hi,

Sorry, Wim, OEM, only, while we can still get them.

    James,

Brooks carries a limited supply of OEM HS&F for S&S; and does a very credible job of boring, tapering, hanging, &c.

    Kind regards.

    Horace
