The Problem With Fast Re-Attack Tuning - YouTube Presentation
• Rapid Re-Attack Tuning is fundamentally problematic and inaccurate.
• It takes signal processing analysis to explain why.
• We get spectral smearing.
• For example, using a repetition rate of the note of 3 times per second, the spread between the 3 highest peaks in the spectrum on the note C6 is 9 cents, and the standard deviation 2.7 cents.
• This means the 'jitter' of your ETD will likely be at least 2 cents in this example, and if the ETD's needle jitters less than this, it is likely the ETD is using insufficient bandwidth to achieve the needed accuracy.
• The 'Freeze' concept of tuning, of which I conceived, is capable of resolving this single attack and getting repeatability and accuracy in a deterministic manner.
• The PianoSens sensor further reduces the time-domain jitter by totally eliminating the effects due to acoustic interferences picked up by a mic.
