Bio

I grew up in a musical family and continued studying piano and flute until the end of high school (1974). I then completed a year of compulsory military service (1975). I studied accounting and completed my articles while continuing to perform (1976-1984) In 1985 I accepted a position at a Music Shop that also had a piano repair business operating from its premises. (Harry Green Music World importers of Samick pianos) I began to learn piano tuning and repairs under the auspices of Harry Green. 1990-1992 I spent a year and a half with a master piano tuner (Keith Macfarlane) refining my skills. 1992-1997 I returned to Harry Green Music World and worked in the workshop and in the field tuning and repairing pianos.  1998-present. I went out on my own and have been operating my own piano tuning and repair business, all the while continuing to upgrade from more skilled piano tuners. 2010 After trying for a number of years to become a member of the SAAPT I took their examinations which stretched over three days and passed! There is unfortunately nothing like the level of support and help that the PTG offers. I am on the committee of the S.A.A.P.T(South African Association Professional Piano Tuners) 2012 I took the bold step of furthering my knowledge and became an associate member and attended the PTG convention in Seattle.  I sat for all three exams at the convention and passed the written and technical exams. I have since attended various conventions until the COVIT pandemic. I am still an associate member of the PTG.(Piano Tuners Guild) I have a large clientele (over 5000) Our company, The Pianoman Technical (Pty) Ltd., tunes, repairs, restores ,moves and rebuilds pianos. I also have apprentices studying under my guidance.
