My primary training has been academic, in piano performance. I earned a D.M.A. in piano from Ohio State University, and taught music at a small university in eastern Kentucky for 26 years.
I started tuning pianos on my own, using my own seat-of-your-pants mean-tone scale until I took a course in PT from Douglas Strong at Indiana University. I spent some time working for Western Piano Company in Sacramento, CA, then practiced privately in the Sacramento area before moving to Kentucky to teach college.
While teaching, I continued to "moonlight" as a piano technician. Having moved recently to central Kentucky, I am now active with the PTG chapter there and am greatly enjoying the resulting professional growth the guild offers.
