Thanks Dave for your comments and if I misinterpreted others' remarks, my apologies. The background on this is that I took a break from the list serve for the last couple of months because I didn't like how aggravated I was getting by certain individuals or the tone of my responses, so I took a sabbatical. I realize that these posts are monitored and that I could lodge a complaint if I thought something were inappropriate and it might be taken down. But I don't want things taken down. I believe in free speech and people should be able to say what they want no matter how inappropriate--or revealing. But that doesn't mean I want to read it or even see it. So, the option to block certain individuals, in my opinion, would be a benefit, accomplish the task of removing those posts from my feed and still protect people's ability to comment, no matter how insulting, to their heart's content. People would be welcome to block me as well, of course.
The list still has great value for me both in the terms of a platform to contribute and to ask questions, gain insight into others' experiences and create a "community" in which those ideas can be freely shared. If it drifts into hot arguments periodically so be it. I used to argue with Ron Nossaman (RIP) periodically, but I never doubted the importance of his contributions or contested his style of communication.
But there are those on this list whose contributions don't rise nearly to that level and seem more focused on antagonism, at least toward me. I don't have any more patience for that. I realize this is not a likely change that will be made, but I've made my request and now I'm on to other things.

David, I hear you, regardless of what you were trying to specify or how I perceived it. These threads are supposedly monitored. But there is way too much to stay on top of to be truly effective, and comments may not be interpreted the same. There is no "mute" or "block" option here as exists with other platforms. But there is an option of "mark as inappropriate" that will at least garner the attention of a moderator. Maybe that's what you meant as "whining". You might also suggest that block or mute capability be added.

It's quite possible I'm reading it the wrong way. It wouldn't be the first time. I did post it to PTG – L which is probably where it belongs. It was a legitimate question about website options, not meant to be an editorial piece

I could be wrong...but I think Don was being serious and jocular simultaneously.

That's an interesting response. Do we have issues that I'm unaware of?
I wasn't referring to anyone who has responded to this so far. But I think there are people on this list who seem to enjoy being the antagonist. Perhaps people consider me one of those people I don't know. But those people who are prone to grievance attacks on me I would like to be able to block rather than whine to the PTG to have the post taken down. I don't think that's an unreasonable request. I'm not sure why you seem to be taking it personally.

I think you're misunderstanding my request. Not for the PTG to block users, but for an individual user to block other users. If you think really hard about it I think you'll understand why. Just like social media, which is basically what this is.

What precipitated this notion? If we were to hypothetically enact such a policy, what would the limitations be?
Non-members? While I see some validity in protecting PTG and its members as misinformation is pervasive and
becoming the norm, caution is prudent so as not to be instigators of invalid censorship; for the good of our community as well as guarding our reputation.
Current events and the media being the perfect examples.

I propose we add the feature of being able to block individuals from our own feed. Can't be that difficult.
