An update: This discussion prompted me to order another drop screw tool to make sure I had a backup, as they do wear out! I ordered the Schaff R-30 "Japanese" jack and drop screw tool.
It came today, and it is perfect for the jack buttton, and has a thin shank for fitting between dowels.
It ALMOST fits the Kawai drop screw, so I tapped on the tool with a hammer and it went down. Now it fits!
So, if you work on Kawai actions once in a while, this tool will work with a little tweaking.

I just ordered every drop screw tool Schaff has. They are all small and too small for the jack adjustment screws especially. You need the thin shaft on these to fit between the dowel let off buttons but with a slightly larger head. Yamahas usually need the jack adjusted and It's frustrating when you take 1/2 hour to do a 10 minute job because there isn't a tool made to fit those,,,, that I have found.
i talked to the people at Schaff explaining the problem and it wasn't like he didn't know about it. After spending 50 bucks on tools and now I have 4 that are similar,, I guess I have enough to trial and error with my Dremel. Strange, I have to do this. You would think a tool company would rise to the occasion. This has been a problem for the 20 years I have been working on pianos. When you only need to use it once every 6 months or so,,

Thanks Wim - but I ordered that item, and its opening is the same size as the other two tools I already have.
There must be a unique Kawai tool for turning those fatter drop screws! Any ideas?
Perhaps Don Mannino knows, because he is very familiar with those shanks and flanges! Don, if you read this, please chime in with your sage advice.
Cordially,

On this Kawai grand I noticed that drop was perilously close to the strings, barely a mm below letoff, sometimes double-striking on pp blows.
So I pulled the action and found that none of my drop regulators would fit the drop screw! Is there a special tool I'm missing?
