    Hi all,

I'm trying to remove a scratch from a cherry Kawai console (see pic).  It's not very deep, but it's noticeable. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

You can try a product called "scratch remover" by Old English, available at most hardware stores that carry refinishing products. There are two different kinds. clear and dark. I would use the dark for this situation.

I have to warn you, this will not remove the depth of the scratch. It will only hide it so that at a glance you won't see it. If you want to fill it in, you'll need to get the lid refinished.

    Check out the repair kit.
I think there is one other competitor to Mohawk but I can't think of it right now.

Behlen?  I've seen their products in a local Rockler's woodworking store.  Very similar to Mohawk, and may be rebranded Mohawk products.  Allied Piano has their own touchup system products.  AlliedPiano.com.  They also sell the polyester repair products.

You could try Howard's Restore-A-Finish, available in Home Depot, in a matching color (maybe Cherry or Red Mahogany).  Wlpe it on, remove excess.  Like Wim said, it won't fill in the scratch but only hide it.  The damage can be repaired with touchup materials, but best to call a professional person who is expert in doing furniture touch-up.

Is that scratch on the music desk ? You can disguise it by using some of the products suggested but as was pointed out the scratch requires filling using a wax stick and blending in. I would try finding someone who has a Furniture Medic franchise or talk to a moving company to find a good furniture refinisher. I had to guys here who where absolute finish wizards. Once you start working on it you own it

Thank you everyone for the advice! It's a piano I'm getting ready to flip, so I don't have the stress of figuring this out in a customer's home. Thanks again!

    Tim,

I have made great use of Mohawk Brush Tip Markers. They come in many colors and have pinpoint accuracy. Great fir making stuff like this practically disappear. M265 is the product number followed by a 4 digit color code.

It's like having an extreme fine tip artist brush at your fingertips. I have a lot of them as I do furniture repair and touch up also.

Use an oil based stain,  slightly darker than the original finish.  Behlen,  Mohawk,  Min-Wax Antique Oil

Many scratches can be soaked with water to swell up the indent. This takes several days of dobbing.and keeping just the scratch damp.
Then you are repairing just the finish and not trying to fill a deeper indent. It's amazing at times. other times,,,,,not so,,,
